Choosing the CSS for free listings

Free product listings are attributed to a CSS too; where the setting is and what it affects.

Free product listings, the unpaid results in the Shopping tab and on other Google surfaces, are attributed to a CSS as well. Google lets a merchant choose which CSS shows its free listings; the choice is separate from the CSS that places the paid Shopping ads.

Where the setting is

  1. Sign in to Merchant Center as an administrator of the account.
  2. Open the settings (gear icon) and the Comparison Shopping Services page. Google has renamed this page between the classic Merchant Center and Merchant Center Next; look for "CSS" or "Comparison Shopping Services".
  3. In the free listings part of the page, choose the CSS that should display your free listings. The list shows the options available for your account.

What it affects

  • Only the CSS shown with the free listings and the comparison site that free-listing clicks are attributed to. Free listings have no bid, so the bid margin of paid Shopping ads does not apply.
  • The ranking of free listings is not changed by the CSS choice; it depends on product data quality and relevance.
  • If the page offers no choice, the account works with one CSS and the free listings use it.

If your free listings and your Shopping ads should carry the same CSS, select verteco.shop in that setting once the switch is complete.
